What We Do
|
Home Safety
The Southern Group Environmental Health Committee in partnership with Investing for Health
is pleased to announce its new Home Safety Initiative – “Southern Safer Homes”.
Home Safety Officers have been appointed to work in each district council area and
on request they will visit you at your home and will offer you advice on any feature
of the home which maybe hazardous to you or you family. In certain circumstances
officers may be able to provide free safety equipment or may contact an other more
suitable agency on your behalf to resolve a specific safety issue(s).
In Northern Ireland figures for accidents in the home are quite frightening.
It is estimated that as many as 70 people die each year, approximately 71,000 attend
the Accident and Emergency Departments of their local hospitals and 9000 of those
attending will be admitted.
Falls, fires and accidental poisoning are the major causes of accidental deaths and
injuries.
The health and economic benefits of accident prevention are clear
so pick up the
phone to day and contact the Home Safety Officer operating in your area
(details below) for a free and totally confidential home safety check which
will be carried out in a friendly and informal manner.
